Tired of swiping left? Perhaps it’s time to relocate. A new study by WalletHub scrolls through the best and worst American cities based on their “dating friendliness.”jilipark

To compile the rankings, researchers compared 182 U.S. cities — comprising the 150 most populated cities, plus at least two of the most populated cities in each state — based on 35 metrics across three categories: “economics,” “fun and recreation” and “dating opportunities.”

Economics matter, according to Chip Lupo, an analyst at WalletHub, because a more affordable city enhances dating opportunities. The study considers average dining costs, housing affordability and median annual household income, among other metrics, to reach a score in this category, which makes up 25 percent of each city’s final score.

Each city’s restaurant scene, nightlife options, walkability and safety were among the metrics included in the “fun and recreation” scores, which make up another 25 percent of the total. “Dating opportunities” contributed the remaining 50 percent of each city’s score. Metrics here included the share of singles, online dating statistics and the ratio of singles by gender. (By weighting gender balance, the study’s results skewed toward singles desiring opposite-sex relationships.)

So, with all that tabulated, which city came out on top? Atlanta, which scored big in “fun and recreation” thanks to its abundance of nightlife activities, shopping centers and social clubs. Even better, over 69 percent of the city’s population is single, according to WalletHub, which relied on demographic data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the Bureau of Labor Statistics and other sources.

Next came Las Vegas, the so-called marriage capital of the world, where things like haircuts and gym memberships were found to be less expensive than in most other cities on the list. Coming in third was Seattle, with the 18th-highest median annual household income — over $80,000 per year — making dating more affordable.

Your search for love may prove tricky if you’re one of roughly 50,000 residents in Pearl City, Hawaii. The small town on the island of Oahu ranked last overall. But don’t fret: Honolulu, which ranked No. 22, is a short drive away. Might we suggest a date on the beach?

United States Magistrate Judge Ryon M. McCabe, of the Federal District Court in West Palm Beach, Fla., granted the government’s request on Monday to keep the suspect, Ryan W. Routh, in jail without bond. So far, Mr. Routh has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm as a felon, which carries a penalty of up to 15 years in prison, and with possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
